How do you connect with an audience directly? How can you make every moment one of delight and discovery? In a world where everyone wants to be an expert, the clown reminds us of the delight in trying and failing. In this class we will explore some of the basic skills that make this work on stage.
Learn some of the basics of the Klezmer repertoire. What makes a Bulgar, not a Freylach, and a Hora not a Waltz. What’s a Terkischer? How do you accompany these dance forms? Learn about Klezmer ornaments and where they fit in. Learn about what makes a performance: Klezmer. Open to all instruments.
Improv: Improv is a great way to find expression and freedom, heal your soul and free your creativity. We create a safe space to play. You will be introduced to games and exercises developed by Viola Spolin, Del Close, Keith Jonstone and others that will help you unleash your imagination, access group mind, and have a more productive relationship with your inner critic.
Elevate mere props into vessels of storytelling and character. Learn to act without your face.
Ever wanted to be a mime? Come learn the lost art. Learn to conjure objects and environments out of thin air. In this introductory class you will learn to connect more effectively with your body as an instrument.
You will develop skills essential for having a compelling stage presence, physically embodying characters effectively, and conveying a world without the use of props or text. We will be exploring physical theater, convincingly manipulating invisible environments and object.
